Trailer Tuesday: Oscar Worthy Edition

A very special selection of Oscar-worthy films coming out in the next couple of months. First up…

Avatar

Starring: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver

Directed by: James Cameron
Release date: December 18th (wide)

This film has been talked about for over a decade and now the wait is almost over. Sure to be another James Cameron masterpiece and a contender for this year’s Best Picture category.

Brothers

Starring: Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire, and Jake Gyllenhaal

Directed by: Jim Sheridan
Release date: December 4th (limited)

Not too much buzz around this movie just yet, but the trailer speaks volumes on this film’s potential. With more of a push I could see this film getting some type of recognition from the Academy.

Invictus

Starring: Morgan Freeman, Matt Damon, Bonnie Henna

Directed by: Clint Eastwood
Release date: December 11th

Million Dollar Baby, Grand Torino (which was wrongly shafted by the Academy last year), Changeling, Flags of Our Fathers, and Letters From Iwo Jima. Invictus is in good company because Clint Eastwood never fails to bring his audience a classic. Look for a Best Direction nod for Eastwood and a possible Best Actor nod for Morgan Freeman.

The Lovely Bones

Starring: Rachel Weisz, Mark Wahlberg, Susan Sarandon, Stanley Tucci, and Michael Imperioli

Directed by: Peter Jackson
Release date: December 11th (limited), January 15, 2010 (wide)

This film is the one too watch. And with award winning director Peter Jackson at the helm, it’s sure to get some Oscar love.
