Screen Actors Guild Award Predictions

The Critics’ Choice awards are a wrap, the Globes have been handed out and now its time for the actors to honor their own. The Screen Actors Guild awards are only days away and its the final battle before the Oscars. As history would have it, whoever wins this award usually goes on to win the Oscar. For those of you who are new to the blog, this is our official prediction list, after each awards show its updated so we can see how we fared.   A brief refresher—blue is should win and red is will win. Get it? Got it? Good.

Now without further adieu, here’s what we predict…

Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture

An Education

The Hurt Locker

****Inglourious Basterds****

Nine

Precious

The Real REAL: I’m going to go with the Basterds on this one. The group already has a Critics’ Choice award under their belt and their cast has the most star power. However I’m really crossing my fingers for both  ‘The Hurt Locker’ and ‘Precious’ cast because they epitomize the definition of ensemble. Both were equally amazing.  As long as the cast of ‘Nine’ doesn’t win…I’m good.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role

****Sandra Bullock – The Blind Side****

Helen Mirren- The Last Station

Carey Mulligan- An Education

Gabourey Sidibe- Precious

Meryl Streep- Julie & Julia

The Real REAL: Streep should win this award for the second year in a row because she’s deserving, but this one will go to Bullock. She’s due for some recognition and  her peers will do her this solid. But I wouldn’t be surprised if Gabby Sidibe’s name was called either.

Outstanding Performance by a Male in a Leading Role

****Jeff Bridges- Crazy Heart****

George Clooney- Up in The Air

Colin Firth- A Single Man

Morgan Freeman- Invictus

Jeremy Renner- The Hurt Locker

The Real REAL:  Bridges, all the way. The standing ovation he received at the Golden Globes was a dead give away.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role

Matt Damon- Invictus

Woody Harrelson- The Messenger

Christopher Plummer- The Last Station

Stanley Tucci- The Lovely Bones

****Christoph Waltz- Inglourious Basterds****

The Real REAL: As much as I want Woody Harrelson to win for his role in ‘The Messenger’, we all know that Christoph Waltz is taking this home.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role

Penelope Cruz- Nine

Vera Farmiga- Up in The Air

Anna Kendrick- Up in The Air

Diane Kruger- Inglourious Basterds

****Mo’Nique Precious****

The Real REAL: At this point in the game, the supporting categories are not even fun anymore.  I hope Mo’Nique has enough room in her trophy case because she’s bringing another one home.

You can see who takes home an actor when  the 16th annual Screen Actors Guild awards air on Saturday January 23, 2010 live on TBS and TNT, 8/7cst.
