And the nominees are…

Finally in!!!

33 days until the 82nd Academy Awards ceremony and I couldn’t be more on edge.  As predicted the nominees were pretty much in tune with what you’re used to seeing, with the exception of a few surprises. Maggie Gyllenhaal being one and The Blind Side being the other.

Without any fanfare, the nominees are:

Actor in a Leading Role

Jeff Bridges in “Crazy Heart”

George Clooney in “Up in The Air”

Colin Firth in “A Single Man”

Morgan Freeman in “Invictus”

Jeremy Renner in “The Hurt Locker”

So happy that someone at the Academy was on the ‘Renner Train’ with me!  He’s a first time nominee along with Colin Firth.

Actor in a Supporting Role

Matt Damon in “Invictus”

Woody Harrelson in “The Messenger”

Christopher Plummer in “The Last Station”

Stanley Tucci in “The Lovely Bones”

Christoph Waltz in “Inglourious Basterds”

No shocker, AT ALL in this category. The only real surprise would be if Waltz didn’t win this award.

Actress in a Leading Role

Sandra Bullock in “The Blind Side”

Helen Mirren in “The Last Station”

Carey Mulligan in “An Education”

Gabourey Sidibe in “Precious”

Meryl Streep in “Julie & Julia”

Was kind of pulling for Emily Blunt to fill the fifth spot but I’m not surprised that Mirren claimed it. Without a doubt, this category is between Sandra and Meryl. Oh and Meryl makes history yet again, this is her 16th nomination.

Actress in a Supporting Role

Penelope Cruz in “Nine”

Vera Farmiga in “Up in the Air”

Maggie Gyllenhaal in “Crazy Heart”

Anna Kendrick in “Up in The Air”

Mo’Nique in “Precious”

My girl Melanie Laurent still can’t get any love but its nice to see Maggie G. in the mix.  And I clearly wasn’t the only one who thought Penelope single handedly saved the bore that was ‘Nine,’  she’s the defending champ but she won’t win against Mo’Nique.

Animated Feature Film

Coraline

Fantastic Mr. Fox

The Princess and the Frog

The Secret of Kells

Up

Definitely had to IMDB “The Secret of Kells” and even then I received lackluster information. But does it really matter? “Up” owns this category.

Directing

James Cameron

Kathryn Bigelow

Quentin Tarantino

Lee Daniels

Jason Reitman

C’mon, is anyone really surprised??

Best Writing- Adapted Screenplay

District 9

An Education

In The Loop

Precious

Up in The Air

“In the Loop” was the shocker for me.  I would have loved to see “A Single Man” invited to the adapted screenplay party…

Best Writing- Original Screenplay

The Hurt Locker

Inglourious Basterds

The Messenger

A Serious Man

Up

Finally some love for ‘The Messenger’!! An exceptional story that deserves more recognition, especially for its cast.  But back to reality, Tarantino has this category on lock.

Up in The Air

Definitely was blind sided by “The Blind Side” being nominated for Best Picture. And I thought that ‘A Serious Man’ had lost its steam but clearly not. I was secretly pulling for “The Hangover” to score a nomination because lets face it, that would be epic.

And there you have it. The moment came, we captured it and now we have to wait until March 7th to see how it all plays out.

And of course, would love to hear what you guys think of the nominations!
