The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel

Did you know that:

  • The first Academy Awards ceremony was held on May 16, 1929 in the Blossom Room of the famed Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. It was a banquet for 250 people.
  • The first televised Academy Awards happened 24 years later on March 19, 1953.
  • Now the awards take place at the 3,401 capacity  Kodak Theatre and is televised in over 50 countries.
  • Fun fact: I was born in Germany, one of the many countries that have the privilege of viewing the Academy Awards annually.

Pop Quiz

Question: What film received the most nominations and awards in the acting categories?

  • Answer: “Network”. In 1976 the film received five nominations and three awards. The nominees included Peter Finch(Actor), William Holden(Actor), Faye Dunaway(Actress), Ned Beatty(Supporting Actor) and Beatrice Straight(Supporting Actress).  Finch, Dunaway and Straight went on to win the awards in their respective categories.
