Oscar Real: Best Actress Breakdown

If you’re keeping track, we skipped a day on the breakdown and now we are 24 days away from Hollywood’s biggest night. We broke down the leading men and now its time to break down the leading ladies….

Best Actress

Meryl Streep

  • Late last year I made the following statement, “Meryl Streep will be nominated for an Oscar and win;” I wholeheartedly stand by this statement. Half the battle is over and on March 7th she will win her  much deserved third Oscar.  Mark. My. Words. And if I’m wrong, I will eat my words. Promise.

Sandra Bullock

  • Surprisingly she’s been the front runner all awards season but the buck stops here. In Oscar ‘s world her performance is possibly the weakest on the list but her previous wins gives her the upper hand amongst the other nominees. However, I highly doubt the Academy gives her this award over Meryl.

Carey Mulligan

  • Once an early front runner, Mulligan could still pull out a surprise victory. Her National Board of Review win gives her a little clout and her possible win at the upcoming BAFTA awards could be just the ammunition she needs to put herself back into the race. She’s still young though, so this definitely won’t be the last we see of her.

Gabourey Sidibe

  • It’s  an amazing fete to earn a nomination for your first film ever, but its also a major quandary.   She deserves to be here but  there are so many factors that go into winning an Oscar, longevity being one of them. Does she have what it takes to sustain a career in the industry?  Only time will tell. For now, I’m happy she’s living the dream.

Helen Mirren
