Nominee spotlight: Christopher Plummer

Birthdate: December 13, 1929

Birthplace: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Big Screen Debut: Stage Struck (1958)

Oscar stats: First time nominee

With a film, television and stage career that spans almost six decades, its extremely hard to believe that Christopher Plummer is a first time Oscar nominee. Best known for his role as Captain Georg von Trapp in ‘The Sound of Music,’ Plummer is currently nominated for his portrayal of Leo Tolstoy in ‘The Last Station.’ He also voices the character Charles Muntz in the Academy Award nominated film ‘Up.’ Although this entire awards season has been centered around Christoph Waltz, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Plummer walked away with a victory. It’s beyond deserved.
