Oscar Real: Best Supporting Actor Breakdown

22 days and counting until the big show as we shift our focus back to the men….

Best Supporting Actor

Christoph Waltz

  • Game, set, match. That’s pretty much the way of the world when you’ve won every single competitive acting award throughout an awards season. At this point in the game Christoph Waltz’s biggest competition is well, Christoph Waltz.  The only other person I see actually having a real chance at victory is….

Christopher Plummer

  • I mean this guy has been acting for as long as both my parents have been alive. And that’s not even the half of it, he’s never been nominated for an Academy Award. Ever. I could see the Academy going the bootleg Lifetime Achievement Award route with Plummer. Or maybe they’ll wait till next year and give him an Honorary Academy Award. Either way, this man needs the flowers while he can still smell them. It’s completely deserved and long overdue.

Woody Harrelson

  • Harrelson delivered on of my favorite supporting performances of the year with ‘The Messenger.’  His portrayal of Captain Tony Stone moved me to tears, and its a performance that I have yet to forget.  In addition to his critically acclaimed performance in ‘The Messenger’, he also achieved commercial success in 2009 with the release of ‘Zombieland.’   And  although he did win the National Board of Review award over Waltz, I’m not expecting him to take home any Oscar gold but I will be extremely happy if he does.

Stanley Tucci

  • Here’s another guy who is finally getting his just due. After years of amazing character roles, his name finally appears on an Oscar ballot. Read more of what we had to say about him here.

Matt Damon

  • A well deserved nomination but his competition is too stiff to pull out a victory.
