Oscar Real: Best Supporting Actress Breakdown

We’re only 19 days away from the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, as we complete the acting categories of our Oscar Breakdown.

Best Supporting Actress

Mo’Nique

  • Who would have thought that Nikki Parker would be a potential Oscar winner? It seems like just yesterday that Mo’Nique’s character on ‘The Parkers’ was chasing after Professor Oglevee, and now she is a Golden Globe and SAG award winner. In all honesty, I would be VERY surprised if she didn’t take this category.  She has won every single competitive acting award thus far, making this Oscar is  hers to lose. Thankfully this is usually the first award of the night handed out, so we won’t have to wait too long to see Mo’Nique claim her Oscar prize.

Maggie Gyllenhaal

  • Nominee spotlight time!!! Click here.

Anna Kendrick

  • In a category with Mo’Nique, I wouldn’t really consider her a ‘front runner’ anymore, but her National Board of Review win gives her a little credibility leading into Oscar night. Hopefully enough credibility to last  until the next Twilight installment….

Penelope Cruz

  • The reigning champ in this category, sadly  Penelope won’t be gracing the stage for a second year in a row. Well…at least not as a winner, she is however scheduled to present the award for Best Supporting Actor.

Vera Farmiga

  • Honestly, I can’t get past the fact that Melanie Laurent should be in this final spot. So…yeah. Congrats?
