Oscar Real: Best Original Score & Song w/ an added gripe

We are less than two weeks away from Hollywood’s biggest night, 12 days to be exact.  And what better way to continue the Oscar Real than with a little bit of music….

Best Original Score

Avatar, James Horner

Fantastic Mr. Fox, Alexandre Desplat

The Hurt Locker, Marco Beltrami & Buck Sanders

Sherlock Holmes, Hans Zimmer

Up, Michael Giacchino

Bottomline:  Michael Giacchino owns this category for ‘Up.’ Hes won every award thus far and I don’t see the Oscars being any different.

Best Original Song

“The Weary Kind” (Crazy Heart), T-Bone Burnett & Ryan Bingham

“Loin de Paname” (Faubourg 36), Reinhardt Wagner & Frank Thomas

“Take it All” (Nine), Maury Yeston

“Almost There” (The Princess & The Frog), Randy Newman

“Down in New Orleans” (The Princess & The Frog), Randy Newman

Bottomline: Same thing goes for ‘The Weary Kind’, T-Bone and Ryan have dominated all season long and double nominations (Randy Newman) almost  never have a happy ending.

Now for the gripe…

Am I the only one completely upset about the axing of the Best Original Song performances this year? I mean sure, I definitely saw it coming after last year’s American Idol-esque medley but if anything I thought that  Adam Shankman and Bill Mechanic would try to improve the performances, not do away with them.  Oh and a good start last year would have been to stop letting Beyonce perform every freaking year!!

I’m still perplexed by that useless, irrelevant musical number from last year.

Now instead of the Best Original song nominees performing on stage they have to be subjected to a dance number by a bunch of ‘So You Think You Can Dance’ rejects. What is that? Last time I checked, Best Original Dance wasn’t a category at the Oscars.

I think its safe to say that we are slowly seeing the decline of the Oscar ceremony that we all know and love.
