Weekend Box Office: March 5-7, 2010

What a weekend!! It should be mandatory that no new releases open at the B.O. during Oscar weekend.  Not only was it a busy weekend in Hollywood but it was a busy weekend at the box office as well, at least for the new number one movie.

1. Alice in Wonderland

2. Brooklyn’s Finest

3. Shutter Island

4. Cop Out

5. Avatar

6. The Crazies

7. Percy Jackson & The Olympians

8. Valentine’s Day

9.Crazy Heary

10. Dear John

Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” shattered box office records with the largest 3-D opening ever, claiming the number one spot. Antoine Fuqua’s  “Brooklyn’s Finest” held down the number two spot, which is a great accomplishment considering it opened on the same weekend as the much-anticipated “Wonderland.”  Scorsese’s epic “Shutter Island” falls a bit but remains comfortable, rounding out the top three.  And “Avatar” only took home three Oscars on Sunday, it’s still contending at the box office in the number five-spot. “Crazy Heart” and “Dear John” rounded out the top 10.

Out this week:  “Green Zone,” “Our Family Wedding,” “Remember Me” and “She’s Out of My League.” I’m predicting “Remember Me” to open at number two. Why? Because Robert Pattinson is starring in it.
