Tyler Perry reveals ‘ For Colored Girls’ Cast

Here’s a project that I’m really excited about because I really think that, if done right, ‘For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuff’ could be Tyler Perry’s ticket to the Academy Awards.

Last night at the premiere of his latest film ‘Why Did I Get Married Too’, Perry announced that Whoopi Goldberg, Janet Jackson and Mariah Carey would be joining the growing cast. Other actresses set to join include Phylicia Rashad, Loretta Devine, Jurnee Smollett, Kimberly Elise, Kerry Washington and Macy Gray.

‘For Colored Girls’ is based off the Ntozke Shange play that features 20 African-American women speaking on the issues they face in modern society. In adapting the play, Perry re-constructs the story so that all the women come in contact with each other at some point in time throughout the film.

Shooting is scheduled to start in June with an expected late 2010/early 2011 release.

I have a great feeling about this and if done right, this film will soar to new heights. Honestly just having Jurnee Smollett and Kerry Washington (two of my favorite actresses) in the same film is a selling point for me.
