Will Smith celebrates “Independence Day”…twice?

One more day until the stress of midterms finally subsides but until then all I have are much-needed study breaks; just enough time to tackle some of the various rumors rumbling around Hollywood this week.

Slash Film is reporting that Will Smith has signed on for two sequels of his 1996 hit “Independence Day.” Both films will be shot back to back and 20th Century Fox will distribute the film, which more than likely will follow this ridiculous 3D trend.

Roland Emmerich, who directed and co-wrote the original, has stated that production would begin after he completed his Shakespeare thriller, “Anonymous.” The sequels are  slated to be a continuation of the original film and would take place “twelve, thirteen, fourteen years later,” according to Slash.

If this rumor turns out to be true, I doubt Smith would sign on to do “Men in Black 3” as well.  In my opinion, it would be too much and a tad bit cheesy. Then again, money talks.

What do you guys think, “Independence Day 2 &3” + “Men in Black 3″…should it be left in the 90s?

Stay tuned for more rumor control….

Personally, I enjoyed Independence Day and the first Men in Black. I don’t think they should make sequels, MIB 2 was horrible in my opinion and ID was a lot of fun, leave it alone.

What will they do with ID, have the aliens come back for round 2? It seems a bit boring to me. Kind of the “I have already seen this” feeling.

    We’ll see = )
