Alphabet Review: (F)riday

Hands down, one of my all time favorite films.   I’ve seen this movie so many times that it could probably re-write the script from memory,  ‘Book of Eli’ style.   April 26th will mark 15 years since the film originally released and made Chris Tucker a household name.

Written by Ice Cube and directed by F. Gary Gray, ‘Friday’ is the classic story of Craig and Smokey, two college aged dudes who spend an ordinary Friday after chillin’, smoking weed, drinking forties and coming into contact with a bunch of interesting characters.  It’s this simple premise that makes ‘Friday’ so legendary, because the concept of ‘just kickin’ it’ is universal.

Throughout the film you meet a hilarious mix of characters such as the neighborhood bully Deebo, Felicia the mooching crackhead, Red, Ezal, Big Worm and tons of others who make this film so great.

Of course , the real star of the film is Tucker whose one liners have become a staple in urban neighborhoods across the country.  Here’s a fun fact for you–since Friday Tucker has appeared in less than 10 films but because his portrayal of Smokey was so classic, that little tidbit of info will come as a shock to some.

Without a doubt ‘Friday’ is an  urban classic and a film that can and should be watched as much as possible. If you haven’t seen it, go rent it now! And for those of you who have, post some of your favorite quotes from the film!
