63rd Cannes Film Festival announces official selections

The Cannes Film Festival revealed their official selections for 2010 and the Hollywood star power is very minimal compared to past years. A sign of the times, maybe?  Possibly, but there’s still a nice amount of A-Listers  who are scheduled to appear in Cannes.

For starters ‘Robin Hood’ will open the festival, which will warrant appearances by Russel Crowe, Cate Blanchett, William Hurt and Kevin Durand. The film is not in competition but it joins other non-competitive films such as ‘Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps’, Woody Allen’s ‘You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger’, and the Sundance hit ‘Blue Valentine.’

One of the most notable films competing this year is ‘Fair Game’, a thriller directed by Doug Liman which stars Naomi Watts and Sean Penn. The film is based on the true story of C.I.A agent Valerie Plame, and will probably go on to be an Oscar vehicle for both Penn and Watts.

The Festival De Cannes starts on May 12 and runs through May 23.
