Bond 23 comes to a halt

Well, here’s something that I kind of saw coming—Bond 23, the follow-up to ‘007 Quantum Solace’ has been suspended indefinitely.  Producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G.Wilson released a statement today citing the reason that really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone:

Due to the continuing uncertainty surrounding the future of MGM and the failure to close a sale of the studio, we have suspended development on ‘Bond 23’ indefinitely. We do not know when development will resume and do not have a date for the release of ‘Bond 23.'”

It’s no secret that the future of the legendary MGM studios has been hanging in the balance, and I’m sure that Bond 23  wont be the only film forced to come to a screeching halt.  A sad case, especially due to the fact that Bond 23 had the potential of being something really spectacular. With rumors of Sam Mendes at the helm and Rachel Weisz as a villain, I’m hoping MGM gets their finances in order to still make this happen.
