6 Hang-Worthy Movie Characters

The movie-watching experience is one that seems to be very personal. At least for me it is. For two plus hours you invest yourself in fictional characters— you’re introduced to everyone  in the first act, making your judgments  accordingly, then you find yourself picking sides in the second act and hoping for a reasonable conclusion in act three.

It’s easy to become attached to characters and question why they don’t exist in real life, which is why I’ve compiled a list of six hang-worthy movie characters. These are the people who’ve  stayed with us  after the credits rolled; the people who you quote on a daily basis, and the people who are honestly just too cool to be real.

6. Alan Garner (The Hangover)

  • Sure he’s a little dense and mistakes a condom for snake-skin, but there is no doubt that Alan is an important asset to any group. Whether it be as the designated fall guy or a card counter at the casino, Alan is definitely hang-worthy.  And you can always use his murse (man purse) to carry things around.

5. Clark Griswold (National Lampoon Vacation Movies)

  • An oldie but a goodie—no dad quite compares to Clark Griswold.  Although a little accident prone, embarrassing and sometimes naive, Clark Griswold is always up for a cross-country road trip.  Whether it’s Wally World, Europe, Christmas time or Vegas,   Clark is the go-to dude for vacation planning. And sure, you may be a little late to your destination, but the memories you’re bound to take away from the experience will be well worth it.

4. Vincent Vega & Jules Winnfield (Pulp Fiction)

  • It’s like a deliciously dangerous pairing of cookies and milk, you can’t have one without the other.  Yes, they’re both  hitmen and by choosing to hang with them you could possibly be an accessory to many crimes, but who cares?  You’re always going to be protected and you’re always going to know where to get the best burger.   Most importantly though, their coolness is personified in Jules’s jheri-fro.

3. Sam (Garden State)

  • The quirky girl next door who see’s the good in everything and everyone. Although a bit of  liar, imagine how great the world would be if everyone was like her; plus she listens to music that will change your life. It’s hard to pin point the exact element that makes her so hang-worthy, but it definitely starts with her offbeat personality.  She’s someone who really truly cares, and it shows. The perfect shoulder to cry on.

2. Tyler Durden (Fight Club)

  • Seriously, this is a no brainer. He’s Tyler–freakin–Durden!! The guy who’s everything you’re not. He’s  hot, a bad ass and one hell of a soap salesman.  And on top of that he’s the co-founder of a top-secret fight club, so no one is ever going to mess with you.  Can you imagine a night out with Tyler Durden? It would be an epic event.

1. Penny Lane (Almost Famous)

  • The girl who changed everything.  The quintessential free spirit,  Penny Lane was almost a mirror image of the actress who portrayed her–warm and welcoming with the ability to light up any room she walked into. But don’t make the mistake of confusing her with a groupie, she’s a Band-Aid who’s there for the music; the lifeblood of Stillwater and your ticket into any show.

    Great list!

I will hang out with Tyler Durden as long as we don’t go hunting for bags of fat from lipo to make soap, Egads, hahaha
