Tyler Perry prepares for a double-header in 2011.

Madea is coming back and this time she’s  bring the entire family!

Announced yesterday by Deadline,  Lionsgate has acquired the rights to Tyler Perry’s 11th feature film, ‘Madea’s Big Happy Family.’  Say what you will (myself included), but Lionsgate knows a bankable project when they see one.  Perry’s  movie already make a ton of money at the box office, but when Madea is added to the equation, those numbers increase tremendously.  There’s just something about a pistol toting grandmother.

The film is planned for an Easter 2011 release, and is adapted from Perry’s stage play of the same name which is currently touring the U.S.

Perry’s 10th film for Lionsgate is the highly anticipated “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf,’ which is scheduled to be released in January 2011.

But the real kicker is that Perry has yet to start either project.   Granted the latter film will start principal photography in July, but it’s still important to ask what the big rush is on the Madea flick?

According to Perry’s official website the final showing of the stage play is May 6th-9th in Detroit.   Add principal photography in July, plus post production on ‘For Colored Girls’ and then pre-production for Madea— that’s a heavy work load, and I’m hoping  that ‘For Colored Girls’ wont suffer because of it.

Explain to me again why Lee Daniels wasn’t asked to do this project??
