‘Breaking Dawn’ negotiation drama

There seems to be a hold up in the negotiation process for the final Twilight films. According to various media outlets, Summit Entertainment is in the process of finalizing big raises for Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner— rightfully so, if you ask me.

Also director Bill Condon has  signed on the dotted line to direct not one, but two ‘Breaking Dawn’ films. So what exactly is the hold up?

Rumor has it that a few secondary characters [Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz] are holding out for more money.  According to Entertainment Weekly, Nikki Reed was also aboard this movement but backed down and opted for a paycheck between $750,000-$1 million.  That’s a humble amount, considering she was probably one of the most recognizable names when the series first started. [At least for those who had seen ‘Thirteen’ prior]

For those unfamiliar with the Twilight franchise, Lutz and Greene play Emmet and Alice Cullen, brother and sister of Edward Cullen.   And seriously, if you don’t know who Edward Cullen is–stop reading.

Anyway…

Both actors cite that they do just as much promotion for the film, are on set for the same amount of time and are demanding at least a 4 million dollar payday.

Now, two films into the series, even the minor Twilighters (Lutz in particular) have become sought-after stars, so it makes sense they’d want to be paid more for the final film. But we’re told that the offers from Summit — which are said to be at least 10 times what the actors made on the first movie — were deemed “offensive” given the mega-money the franchise has generated.

Demanding? 4 million dollar payday? For reciting two lines? At least that’s the case in Lutz’s situation because his character is eye candy at best.  And I’m willing to bet money that no one even knew who Lutz and Greene were before Twilight became a huge sensation.

So what’s the next step?

If I was running Summit, the quickest solution would be to recast— just to prove a point. If you remember, after ‘Twilight: New Moon’ Rachelle Lefevre  had similar antics going on, in regards to money and other projects, and was subsequently replaced by Bryce Dallas Howard for ‘Twilight: Eclipse.’

However on the flip side, replacing two actors in the final stretch of the series is a huge gamble. For starters both actors have probably built a solid fanbase from the first ‘Twilight’ to now, and the last thing you want to do is piss off a million teenage girls. Then again, it’s not like Summit is replacing Pattinson, Lautner or Stewart— the real bread winners of the franchise.

The most logical solution would be to meet in the middle.  If you ask me, $ 4 million is too much but considering the film’s success somewhere around $ 2 million seems to be a substantial amount of money,

Hopefully both Lutz and Greene drop their recent  antics and come up with a better plan. There are people who would kill for a 1 million dollar payday, and while $ 4 million is chump change for Summit Entertainment nowadays, it’s still too much to ask to for the minimal lines and screen time each character has.

Now I’ll throw this topic to you—

What would you do in this situation? Renegotiate,  find a middle ground or  find a replacement?

Sound off in the comment area or take the poll.

I have not seen any of the Twilight films. Randall watched the first one becuase his gf wanted to see what the fuss was about and he told me the whole story and all I could do was roll my eyes, especially the sparkling part, lol

I have seen clips out of curiosity, I like Vampires and I have to say that the actors can be replaced if they don’t agree on their pay. I can’t be 100% sure about this but I think Twilight made all of these actors famous, right? I liked Robert Pattinson (sp) in Goblet of Fire but that’s it.

Young actors are a dime a dozen. Give them some teeth, lipstick and make them pale, they will be famous and adored too. hehehe

BTW In the clips I saw for Twilight, is it me or do they all wear the same color lipstick?

    • Just like Randall and his gf, I watched the films to see what the fuss was about & albeit cheesy, they weren’t all that bad. Lol.

But I agree with you, anyone can be a vampire and it would be much easier to replace anyone who can’t comply with their given salary. I’ll take whatever they won’t to pay off these college loans, lol.
