Cameron Crowe returns to direct ‘We Bought a Zoo’

I would be the happiest girl if this turned out to be true. Cameron Crowe is one of my absolute favorite writers and directors, and it’s about time that this is happening.

For the first time in five years, Crowe will finally get behind the camera again to direct ‘We Bought a Zoo,’  the adaptation of the Benjamin Mee memoir.  According to The Hollywood Reporter,  Crowe had been “circling around the memoir since winter,” and has rewritten the script which was originally penned by Aline Brosh McKenna.

Julie Yorn will produce the film and Fox will distribute; the studio has already committed to a December 23, 2011 release date. Just in time for Oscar voters.

Here’s a brief synopsis of ‘We Bought a Zoo’ from the Holly Reporter:

“Zoo” tells the true account of how Mee and his family used their life savings to buy a dilapidated zoo, replete with 200 exotic animals facing destruction, in the English countryside.

Mee, along with his children, had to balance caring for his wife, who was dying of brain cancer, with dealing with escaped tigers, raising endangered animals, working with an eclectic skeleton crew and readying the zoo for a reopening.

I’m so excited for this project because I’ve loved just about everything he’s done—  ‘Say Anything’, ‘Singles’, ‘Almost Famous’, ‘Fast Times at Ridgemont High,’ Jerry Maguire’, ‘Vanilla Sky’ — why doesn’t this guy do more projects?!?

Speaking of more Crowe projects, there’s no word yet on the progress of his Marvin Gaye biopic, although there has been news that Terrance Howard may replace Will Smith who was once in talks to play the iconic R&B crooner.

This sounds like such an interesting film. I am looking forward to it. I like Cameron Crowe’s films, especially Almost Famous.

Side note. I went to the Jerry Bruckheimer ceremony yesterday which turned into the premiere for Prince of Persia. Lots and lots of stars. Come check it out when you get a chance http://wp.me/pwhix-9K

Thanks for the Cameron Crow news!
