Ellen Page signs on for ‘Freeheld’

Academy Award nominee Ellen Page has signed on to star in “Freeheld”, an adaptation of the Oscar-winning short by Cynthia Wade, based on a true story. Looks like someone is trying to score her second Oscar nomination.

Page will portray Stacie Andree, a  New Jersey mechanic, who becomes entangled in trying to secure pension benefits for her police detective lover, after she is diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Endgame Entertainment will finance the film that scored Wade the best documentary short Oscar in 2008.

No word yet on who will direct film, although I’m sure Wade is being considered.

Personally, I think Ellen Page is one of the best young actresses working today, and  I expect this film to be a perfect Oscar vehicle for her  in 2012.  She’s already been to the big show one time before for ‘Juno’, and she will most likely be a staple in the 2010  awards season alongside the cast of ‘Inception.’
