It’s beginning to look a lot like awards season as the lineups for the final film festivals of the year—all which are usually critical to an awards campaign— begin to pile in.

Today the committee for the 67th Venice International Film Festival announced their official lineup, with Darren Aronofsky’s ‘Black Swan’ being the official festival opener, and a favorite to win the coveted Golden Lion Award.  Other American films in competition include  Sofia Coppola’s ‘Somewhere’, Vincent Gallos’ ‘Promises in the Water’ and Monte Hellman’s ‘Road to Nowhere.’

The Affleck brothers will make Venice a family affair, as both their films are scheduled to appear out of competition. Big brother Ben’s ‘The Town’ is also scheduled to show in Toronto, while kid brother Casey’s ‘I’m Still Here’—based on brother-in-law Joaquin Phoenix—will just have to settle for a Venice showing.  This of course, isn’t too shabby.

The festival will run from September 1-11.
