Confirmed: Tony Scott will direct ‘Top Gun 2’

Well what do ya know? Yet another case of Hollywood trying to resurrect an 80s classic and make it relevant to a new generation, instead of just leaving well enough alone. Seriously, that’s why we have Netflix.  The latest victim of the vicious cycle? Top Gun.

It’s just been confirmed by Tony Scott himself, that he and producer Jerry Bruckheimer have signed on to bring ‘Top Gun 2’ to life.  Scott had the following to say to HitFlix about his new gig:

I don’t want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie. I’m not waiting for a script. I’m going to do my homework. I’m going down to I think it’s Fallon, Nevada, down near New Mexico and it’s a whole different world now. These computer geeks – these kids play war games in a trailer in Fallon, Nevada and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones. They are unmanned aircraft. They operate them and then they party all night.”

Sounds….promising?!

There’s no official word yet from Paramount, so we’ll have to take a wait and see approach with the news.  Scott’s latest film Unstoppable, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, hits theaters on November 12.
