Opening Today

Happy Friday!  There’s no better way to end a busy week than with a little cinema therapy, and luckily for you there’s a nice mix to choose from this weekend at the box office.  Comedy, drama, animation— check out what’s opening up this weekend:

Due Date

Consensus:  This Robert Downey Jr. meets Zach Galifianakis road trip comedy weighed in as “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes at 42% , and received a below average metascore of 54/100 on MetaCritic.  However, the masses over at IMDB gave ‘Due Date’ a 7.3 rating on a 10 point scale.  What does all this mean? It means that the masses have it; so if you’re looking for comedy this weekend this is what you want to see.

For Colored Girls

Consensus: Tyler Perry is back again, and this time tackling material that is almost foreign to him. The film is currently “rotten” on Rotten Tomatoes at 35%, and received a below average metascore of 54/100. The masses have yet to weigh in on IMDB, but like most of Perry’s films the opinions are bound to be split down the middle. Sidenote: I will be seeing this film tonight with family, and will have a full review posted by the end of the weekend.

Consensus: This is the film to see this weekend, at least according to critics.  It’s currently sitting fresh on Rotten Tomatoes at 67%, with a metascore of 64/100. The IMDB masses gave the film a 6.9/10, making it not just a critical hit but a hit with the general audience as well.
