68th Annual Golden Globe Award Predictions

In less than 12 hours, Katie Holmes, Josh Duhamel and Blair Underwood will be on hand to announce the nominees for the 68th Annual Golden Globe Awards. Luckily, I’ve made it just in time to share my predictions for tomorrow morning.

It’s late, so I’ll spare you the extra chit-chat— here are my predictions:

Best Director

Ben Affleck

Darren Aronofsky

David Fincher

Christopher Nolan

David O. Russell

No surprises here from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association; this should be a pretty fair category with Ben Affleck thrown into the mix for ratings.

Best Motion Picture-Drama

The Social Network

Black Swan

The Town

The Fighter

Once again– no surprises. The Town being nominated tomorrow is almost expected because it was a success among the masses and the everyday man needs a reason to watch the Golden Globes on NBC.

Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture- Drama

Leonardo DiCaprio, Inception

Robert Duvall, Get Low

Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network

Colin Firth, The King’s Speech

Ryan Gosling,  Blue Valentine

Leo is usually a favorite at the Globes  so expect his name to appear on the ballot. Other than that, a pretty standard list of nominees featuring the usual suspects for the season. Although I’ve replaced James Franco with Ryan Gosling.

Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture- Drama

Halle Berry, Frankie and Alice

Nicole Kidman, Rabbit Hole

Natalie Portman,  Black Swan

Noomi Rapace, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

Michelle Williams, Blue Valentine

Halle Berry should be the surprise nominee on tomorrow morning, along with Noomi Rapace for her role in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The Globes are known to shake things up a bit (i.e.: Julia Roberts for Duplicity last year), so expect the unexpected–especially in this category.

Best Motion Picture- Comedy

Alice in Wonderland

Easy A

Love and Other Drugs

The Kids Are All Right

The Kids Are All Right is pretty much a given, while Burlesque and Easy A will get in where they fit on based on principle. The category is Best Musical or Comedy, right?

Best Actor in a Motion Picture- Comedy

Jim Carey,  I Love You, Phillip Morris

Johnny Depp,  Alice in Wonderland

Robert Downey, Jr.,  Due Date

John C. Reilly,  Cyrus

Ben Stiller,  Greenberg

Every award shows needs funny guys and it’s definitely a plus that some of the funniest men in Hollywood appeared in dramedys this year. Expect to see Carey, Reilly, and Stiller on the ballot— for the comic relief alone.

Best Actress in a Motion Picture-Comedy

Annette Bening,  The Kids Are All Right

Cher,  Burlesque

Julianne Moore,  The Kids Are All Right

Julia Roberts,  Eat Pray Love

Emma Stone,  Easy A

Annette will win but the rest will qualify. Simple as that. I mean seriously, not nominating Cher would be so not chic.

Best Supporting Actor

Christian Bale,  The Fighter

Vincent Cassel, Black Swan

Andrew Garfield, The Social Network

Jeremy Renner, The Town

Justin Timberlake,  The Social Network

This will probably be the only chance that Timberlake and Garfield will have to compete against each other, and quite frankly the only solid chance that Timberlake has of winning. The Globes loves these kind of moments that they can take credit for…

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture

Amy Adams,  The Fighter

Helena Bonham-Carter,  The King’s Speech

Greta Gerwig,  Greenberg

Barbara Hershey,  Black Swan

Hailee Steinfeld,  True Grit

Personally, I think that Barbara Hershey will not only be nominated but I think she’ll win. As stated before, the Globes loves making once in a lifetime moments…

The nominations will be announced bright and early tomorrow morning at 5 am/PT and will be posted here on the blog shortly after.
