The first awards weekend of the season has arrived and it kicks off tonight with a personal favorite. The 16th Critics’ Choice Awards will air live tonight on VH1 at 8pm/CST.  Per usual, The Real Reel has predicted how the awards will be handed out and we will be watching and covering the show LIVE tonight beginning at 7:45pm/CST.  It’s going to be an exciting weekend and you don’t want to miss it!

Without further adieu, check out The Real Reel’s official predictions for tonight’s show and then check back tomorrow for an official wrap up of events!

Here’s a little legend to guide you through the list:

Who should win = BLUE

Who will win = RED

Once updated (***) will denote the winners

BEST PICTURE
127 Hours
Black Swan
The Fighter
Inception
The King’s Speech
**The Social Network**
The Town
Toy Story 3
True Grit
Winter’s Bone

The Real REAL: By now it should be no secret,  The Social Network is my ace in the hole.
BEST ACTOR
Jeff Bridges – “True Grit”
Robert Duvall – “Get Low”
Jesse Eisenberg – “The Social Network”
**Colin Firth “The King’s Speech”**
James Franco – “127 Hours”
Ryan Gosling – “Blue Valentine”

The Real REAL: As much as I would love for Jesse Eisenberg to pick up this award, this is the Year of Firth! He’s so deserving and after giving two consecutively remarkable performances, there’s no way he’s not  making it all the way to the finish line.
BEST ACTRESS
Annette Bening – “The Kids Are All Right”
Nicole Kidman – “Rabbit Hole”
Jennifer Lawrence – “Winter’s Bone”
**Natalie Portman – “Black Swan”**
Noomi Rapace – “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo”
Michelle Williams – “Blue Valentine”
The Real REAL: The Critics’ Choice Awards is no stranger to a tie vote and it usually occurs in this category. It’s happened for two years in a row and usually sets the stage for a “showdown” as the awards season progresses. Then again, the last two years have featured Meryl Streep in the equation. Portman should ride solo for the win but I’m going to play it safe and call it a “tie”.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR
**Christian Bale – “The Fighter”**
Andrew Garfield – “The Social Network”
Jeremy Renner – “The Town”
Sam Rockwell – “Conviction”
Mark Ruffalo – “The Kids Are All Right”
Geoffrey Rush – “The King’s Speech”

The Real REAL:  On the popular awards circuit, this will be the first of many wins for Christian Bale. Start engraving his name on the Oscar right now.
BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS
Amy Adams – “The Fighter”
Helena Bonham Carter – “The King’s Speech”
Mila Kunis – “Black Swan”
**Melissa Leo – “The Fighter”**
Hailee Steinfeld – “True Grit”
Jacki Weaver – “Animal Kingdom”

The Real REAL: Here’s the deal….because she’s in the correct category, Melissa Leo should win. However, with Hailee Steinfeld committing the ultimate category fraud (she’s 14 so I’ll cut her some slack), she should have no problem picking up this award.
BEST YOUNG ACTOR/ACTRESS
Elle Fanning – “Somewhere”
Jennifer Lawrence – “Winter’s Bone”
Chloe Grace Moretz – “Let Me In”
Chloe Grace Moretz – “Kick-Ass”
Kodi Smit-McPhee – “Let Me In”
**Hailee Steinfeld – “True Grit”**

The Real REAL: Because Portman and/or Bening will easily take the Best Actress category, and Steinfeld the Supporting category, this is the perfect scenario for Jennifer Lawrence to come in and claim some hardware. This should be an easy win for her.
BEST ACTING ENSEMBLE
**The Fighter**
The Kids Are All Right
The King’s Speech
The Social Network
The Town

The Real REAL: The TSN crew should win 1.) because I love them and 2.) they are the definitive ensemble underdogs considering most of the cast were relatively unknown before the film blew up.   With that being said, the cast of The Kids Are All Right will probably win to make up for Julianne Moore not scoring a nod.
BEST DIRECTOR
Darren Aronofsky – “Black Swan”
Danny Boyle – “127 Hours”
Joel Coen & Ethan Coen – “True Grit”
**David Fincher “The Social Network”**
Tom Hooper – “The King’s Speech”
Christopher Nolan – “Inception”

The Real REAL: David Fincher should start clearing space of his mantle because this is the first in a long line of hardware that he’ll be picking up. All of the above directors are very much deserving but its Fincher’s year.
BEST ORIGINAL SCREENPLAY
“Another Year” – Mike Leigh
“Black Swan” – Mark Heyman and Andres Heinz and John McLaughlin
“The Fighter” – Scott Silver and Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson (Story by Keith Dorrington & Paul Tamasy & Eric Johnson)
“Inception” – Christopher Nolan
“The Kids Are All Right” – Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg
**”The King’s Speech” – David Seidler**

The Real REAL: One of the few enigmas of the 2011 awards season. This category is honestly too good to call but if a bet had to be placed – The King’s Speech.
BEST ADAPTED SCREENPLAY
“127 Hours” – Simon Beaufoy and Danny Boyle
**”The Social Network” – Aaron Sorkin**
“The Town” – Peter Craig and Ben Affleck & Aaron Stockard
“Toy Story 3” – Michael Arndt (Story by John Lasseter, Andrew Stanton and Lee Unkrich)
“True Grit” – Joel Coen & Ethan Coen
“Winter’s Bone” – Debra Granik and Anne Rosellini

The Real REAL:  Two words: Aaron Sorkin. Why even bother with the other nominees?

BEST ANIMATED FEATURE
Despicable Me
How to Train Your Dragon
The Illusionist
Tangled
**Toy Story 3**

The Real REAL: C’mon? Really?
