The Social Network is a hit at the Globes

What a night for The Social Network! The Hollywood Foreign Press Association deemed the film the year’s best by awarding it with Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score. The only categories the film didn’t pick up were Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor; those honors respectively went to Colin Firth and Christian Bale. Natalie Portman and Melissa Leo continued their award-winning weekend on the Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress front, a win that pretty much has them following the ‘yellow brick road’ all the way to the Oscar podium.

On the comedy end of things, Annette Bening claimed the Best Actress honor, while Paul Giamatti surprised everyone with a win against Johnny Depp x 2 , Kevin Spacey and Jake Gyllenhaal for Best Actor. The Kids Are All Right took home the Best Picture-Comedy prize.

Comedian Ricky Gervais did a stellar job as host, taking no prisoners and sparing zero feelings. Even Cecil B. DeMille honoree Robert DeNiro got in on the fun during his acceptance speech. However two highlights of the night included funny presentations by Robert Downey Jr.  and the always hilarious duo of Steve Carell and Tina Fey.

Other winners included Toy Story 3 for Best Animated Film and In a Beautiful World for Best Foreign Film.
