Nominee Spotlight: John Hawkes

Birthdate: September 11, 1959

Birthplace: Alexandria, Minnesota

Big Screen Debut: Future- Kill (1985)

Oscar Stats: First time nominee

John Hawkes  has made his career as a character actor supporting the likes of Denzel Washington, George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg and Keanu Reeves, reminiscent of John Cazale of the past and Steve Buscemi of the now. For years he was placed  in that “what movie was he in” category, with audiences remembering his work but not his name — until now.   With his role as Teardrop, a meth addict in Best Picture nominee Winter’s Bone, not only did Hawkes make us remember his name, he managed to score a well deserved Oscar nomination in the process.
