‘Monsters, Inc.’ sequel is underway; now titled ‘Monsters University’

It’s been 10 years since Monsters, Inc. charmed kids and adults alike with the amazing vocal pairing of Billy Crystal and John Goodman as  adorable bff’s Mike and Sully, and now Pixar is ready to charm us again with Monsters University, a rumored prequel to the 2001 Oscar-winning film.¹

The plan for a second Monsters, Inc. was announced by Pixar yesterday at CinemaCon, the inaugural film convention being held in Las Vegas this week.  Though the studio remained mum on their plans for the film, somehow the title has given way to the following:

The rumoured plot would show how monsters Mike Wazowski (voiced by Billy Crystal) and James P. Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) wind up as best friends at the University of Fear, after starting out as enemies.

Personally, Monsters. Inc, was the last great Pixar film before 2009’s Up. Or maybe it was just the last Pixar film that I actually cared enough about to watch in a theater. Either way, as long as this rumored prequel involves Randall (voiced by Steve Buscemi) and his constant need to be the top scarer, I’m all for it.

Peter Docter will of course return to direct and the film already has a release date of November 2nd, 2012.
