Weekend Box Office: April 8-10, 2011

Good Monday evening, movie lovers!   The box office has been quite lackluster in 2011, and there’s no greater indication of this than two Russell Brand films opening in the top three  this weekend.  Hop and Arthur, the former featuring Brand’s voice, finished the weekend in the number one and three spots, respectively, while Hanna clocked  in at number two. The film starring Saoirse Ronan, opened to exceptional reviews and seemed to be the favorite among moviegoers over the weekend.

Disappointing at the box office was Your Highness, which only made back $9.52M of its $50M investment and opened at number 6. Guess the Oscars isn’t the only bomb James Franco’s resume.  To be fair, the film also starred Danny McBride and will forever be known as Natalie Portman’s post Oscar film.  Bright side, at least it wasn’t Cat Woman.

Here’s the full list:

1. Hop

2. Hanna

3. Arthur

4. Soul Surfer

5. Insidious

6. Your Highness

7. Source Code

8. Limitless

9. Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Roderick Rules

10. The Lincoln Lawyer

Out this week: Rio and Scream 4
