Five reasons why you should see ‘Fast Five’

Though its missed the mark a couple of times (2 Fast, 2 Furious and Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift), the Fast and Furious series has been a guilty pleasure for adrenaline junkies for many years.  With the nice cars, aesthetically pleasing cast and fast paced action, here are five reasons (in no particular order) why you’ll want to see Fast Five.

1. The Man Candy

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Paul Walker  and Vin Diesel all in the same movie and all looking equally scrumptious; the man candy on the bill is worth the admission price alone. Don’t worry fellas, there’s some for you too. Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot and Elsa Pataky all appear in the film, thereby leveling the playing field.

2. The Story

  • For the first time in the series, the premise extends far beyond hijacking and car chases.  Sure, the elements are there but the franchise takes a more personal turn, giving the audience something to really care about until the very end. Sidenote: I had the opportunity to watch with a very interactive crowd, who would cheer at every major moment throughout the film.

3. The Supporting Characters

  • If Fast Five ends up being the last of the franchise, then bringing back alumni such as Gadot, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Sung Kang and Tego Calderon was the perfect way to bring the series full circle and give everyone, audience included, closure.

4. You’ll want to stay until the credits are over.

  • No really, you will.  After the credits begin to roll, there’s a secret scene about two minutes in.

5. Because all the cool kids are going to see it.

  • Fast Five is the perfect prelude to the summer movie season.  It’s a thrill ride that can’t be missed and you don’t want to be the lame at the water cooler on Monday morning discussing how you opted out of seeing it for a matinée showing of Dylan the Dog, or whatever else was playing this weekend. Fast Five is the ticket and you won’t be disappointed.

My grade: 8/10
