2012 Spirit Award Nominees Announced

The Film Independent Spirit Awards and the New York Film Critics Circle are respectively announcing their nominees and winners today. Seeing as the NYFCC haven’t realized that their not twelve angry men on a jury – they’ve only announced six winners in the last two hours in a live vote – so a full list from them will come later.

For now, we have the nominees for the Independent Spirit Awards and the surprises are pretty interesting. A few standouts include a complete shut out for Like Crazy, a lack of  love for Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan in Shame and a lead actress nomination for Pariah’s Adepero Oduyu, something that could be a major game changer if Focus Features uses last night’s win at the Gotham Awards as added leverage for a campaign.

The 15th annual Piaget Producers Award honors emerging producers who, despite highly limited resources demonstrate the creativity, tenacity, and vision required to produce quality, independent films.  The award includes a $25,000 unrestricted grant funded by Piaget.
